Maple-Aid A Recipe for a Close Family

Maple-Aid

servings: 8      time: 5-10 minutes

Combine in large jug:

1 gallon- water

1 cup- Mac's Maple syrup

1/4 cup- apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon (or to taste)- sea salt

1-2 drops Green Hope Farm flower essences

Single Serving:

2 cups- water

2 Tablespoon- Mac's Maple syrup

1 Tablespoon- apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice

1/4 teaspoon (or to taste)- sea salt

1 drop Green Hope Farm flower essences

The ingredients in this beverage help restore valuable electrolyte balance that is lost during the flu.  While I am partial to Mac's Maple syrup for the sweet component (my husband & his family does work hard to collect the stuff after all) know that you can easily substitute in molasses or honey with a similar benefit.  Try to avoid straight sugar, as that tends to deplete your system of valuable nutrients like zinc and B vitamins.  While we think of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice as being acidic, they actually serve to bring alkalinity to the body which creates an environment that promotes less bacteria growth.  Sea salt is thought to be more nourishing than your standard refined salt as it has more valuable minerals in it.  Again, if you have only refined salt, not the end of the world! The more I work with Green Hope Farm flower essences, the more they have become my personal favorite for a little energetic lift. Think sending your energetic system the feeling of a bouquet of flowers when you're not feeling so hot!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm sick of blog posts that have pages of writing before you get to the recipe.  So the recipe came first today.

Read on if you feel like a laugh over the graphic details of my family's holiday.

Or stop.  And make my newest favorite electrolyte beverage recipe if you stayed up a little too late last night watching the ball drop!

I'm writing this post from a reclining position while my digestive tract still rumbles a bit from the "plague" that hit post-extended family Christmas this past weekend, inspiring this Mapleade recipe.

A friend recently was talking to me about her own family gatherings and what having her family together feels like for her.  The conversation ended with her saying, "You know, Em, my family isn't as close as yours!"

I'll tell you what close looked like for us this Christmas.

It was encompassed in the form of two darling little children:

Family members bounced them on their knees,

tossed them into the air,

played with them on the floor,

and, this year, had the oldest hand-deliver the presents to each person!

(much to the relief of my going-on-16-youngest cousin who's played the elf for years)

We enjoyed salads, soups, Swedish meatballs, ham, foccaccia, rolls, and cookies galore.

Testing the children's willpower to leave chocolates alone,

To identify each family member

To share what they knew about St. Nick,

And to sit at the table for our meal, politely ask for more.

We walked, talked, and ate.

Laughed and opened our yankee swap gifts,

A wedding album's recipient-

Had us in stitches.

Loaded up our "sleighs",

To leave camp empty for winter,

Little did we know what else

was also coming home with us for dinner.

The virus, so well carried in the adorable children

who had seemed to see the last of it days before,

brought 7 family members to the porcelain bowls

starting Sunday morn.

I managed to make stave it off till Sunday evening,

when the stomach pangs started.

An unfamiliar feeling that I haven't had in years,

As I ran to the toilet it all became too real.

My sister, who had had a drink from my cup earlier in the day,

Didn't heed my warnings,

when I mentioned a sore throat hurting.

Smugly stated, "My immune system's tough."

Not so much by Monday morning.

Now, three days later,

my unsettled digestive tract reminds me:

the gift good health is.

And, the importance of a solid electrolyte beverage.

Wishing you and yours all the best of 2020:

Health,

Happiness,

Imperfect Close-ness,

And, Love, Plenty!
