What is Nutritional Therapy

[I've posted mostly my own food musings to date, but I figured I should get into the meat (no pun intended!) of what I learned over last 9 months in today's post. In hopes of perfecting my elevator spiel, here it goes... ]

So, what is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a guide in helping people discover where their personal stressor(s) lie by working with their body's innate wisdom.   Nutritional Therapy helps uncover what nutrients, foods, and lifestyle will best support a person's unique goals and lie the groundwork for their body to best nourish itself.

There are six foundations we focus on in our work:

1) a Nutrient Dense, Properly Prepared, Nutrient Dense Whole Food Diet

(yes it's a mouthful! ...here I go with the unintended puns again...)

2) Digestion

3) Blood Sugar Regulation

4) Hydration

5) Fatty Acid Handling

6) Mineral Balance

At this point you may be wondering...

How does a Nutritional Therapy consultation work?

This is where my recent certification comes into play!

I have many different ideas of how I could best serve people (see my plug for a class coming up at our local coop), but here's a start:

1. We have an initial 15 minute phone consultation to learn how we might work together.

2. I send you an initial interview, food and mood journal, and nutritional assessment questionaire to complete that gets into the nitty gritty of how your body currently functions & sets goals for how you will wake up feeling if your Nutritional Therapy consultation is a success.  This can be one of the most difficult steps, but critical!

3. We meet up and conduct a Functional Evaluation that uses Lingual-Neuro Testing (which I could probably dedicate an entire future post to describing!) to help learn more about areas in your body that need nutritional support.  Essentially, there are different reflex points on your body linked to spots where the autonomic nerve ganglion branches off the spinal column to specific organs that can be tested for a tenderness rating and change when a certain nutrient is placed on your tongue.  This testing is another piece of the puzzle that can help me hone in on specific nutrients or body systems that need support.

The good news is, if you prefer not to be "poked" (as my husband calls it), we can still learn a significant amount from the information I collect from your initial interview and nutritional assessment questionaire paperwork!  [This means, yes!  I can work with you remotely!]

4. I analyze all the data that we've collected and we meet again to discuss the best way to help support the stressors that your body is facing- whether it be supplementation, specific foods, or lifestyle goals.

The most important piece of this process is understanding that change takes time!  There is never one simple fix with the Nutritional Therapy, our body is woven together in ways we are only just beginning to understand.  It can take years for this type of work with our bodies to take effect.  Most practitioners recommend clients start with a goal of working together for at least three months.

Interested in learning more?  I would LOVE to hear from you! Please email me at buddingnourishment@gmail.com if you'd like a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation to learn how we might work together.

*In the meantime, I'd love to see you at an upcoming class I'm putting together at the Lebanon Coop this coming Thursday, 11/7 at 10:30 AM-12:30PM.  Sign up here:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/our-mineral-needs-looking-to-roots-and-brassicas-tickets-6754044629
